The Olde English Bulldogge was bred to better an existing breed. It was in 1971 that David Leavitt, then of Spring Grove, Pennsylvania, began the breeding project that was to give rise to a reconstruction of the Bulldogs of Elizabethan England, called by Leavitt the Olde English Bulldogge. They are a separate breed from the English Bulldog. They are healthier than the restricted modern Bulldog.
The Olde Bulldogge is intended to be a dog that is friendly around its family and friends but when beckoned to action is very capable of taking care of business.
Temperament: Friendly, but a fearless adversary to anyone who threatens his master or property.
The Olde English Bulldogges, are natural breeders and whelpers. This breed has a moderately wrinkled, large bully head and short, broad muzzle, which is less extreme than the regular Bulldog. They are broad-chested, medium sized dogs. This dog is powerful, and athletic-looking.
These dogs are know to be great with children. Having a breed with a good reputation around children is always a plus. My dogs must be loving. They must have courage and determination, without being overly aggresive.
You can teach a dog to bite, you don't want a overly agressive dog.
The breed has a good record for longevity. Twelve years.
The Olde English Bulldogges come in various colors: Brindle or Red, Fawn, White or Black, all may have brindling or white markings.
Over the past 20 years We have raised several different breeds. They consist of German Shepherd, Doberman Pinscher, Rottweiler, Cane Corso, Minature Pinscher, to name a few. We love them all but the most rewarding has been the Olde English Bulldogge. They are very loving and eager to please. We were also drawn to the Bulldogge because of their awesome appearance. A protection dog that really looks the part, fierce and menacing. Appearance alone is a deterrence.
They have great guarding tendencies accompanied with a determined nature.
We train our dogs to be loving, friendly but confident.
Our dogs are house dogs and they are around people daily.
A well-socialized pet makes the ultimate guardian and family companion.
